Days Between...
There were days
and there were days
and there were days between
Summer flies and August dies
the world grows dark and mean
Comes the shimmer of the moon
on black infested trees
the singing man is at his song
the holy on their knees
the reckless are out wrecking
the timid plead their pleas
No one knows much more of this
than anyone can see anyone can see
There were days
and there were days
and there were days besides
when phantom ships with phantom sails
set to sea on phantom tides
Comes the lightning of the sun
on bright unfocused eyes
the blue of yet another day
a springtime wet with sighs
a hopeful candle lingers
in the land of lullabies
where headless horsemen vanish
with wild and lonely cries lonely cries
There were days
and there were days
and there were days I know
when all we ever wanted
was to learn and love and grow
Once we grew into our shoes
we told them where to go
walked halfway around the world
on promise of the glow
stood upon a mountain top
walked barefoot in the snow
gave the best we had to give
how much we'll never know we'll never know
There were days
and there were days
and there were days between
polished like a golden bowl
the finest ever seen
Hearts of Summer held in trust
still tender, young and green
left on shelves collecting dust
not knowing what they mean
valentines of flesh and blood
as soft as velveteen
hoping love would not forsake
the days that lie between lie between…
In the time of detest and dejection there are few moments which give you a healing power to strive for tomorrow. Just close your eyes and feel Jerry singing in his later days, a melancholic sad voice murmuring this song…
Whenever I listen to any version, something flows in my vein....
We miss you so much today…
But will be forever grateful…

@V - yep I ve this version, actually downloaded yesterday night..the feeling is enormous...
I was on the verge of uploading this actually...:)
@giftofwings: Were you able to download "american pie" from the link given by ventilatorblues? If you were, can you please help me obtain that? Somehow I couldn't do that from the site.
hey akash
I dint try actually for the song, but I have an access to the p2p n/w of my school, I will search and send in the song to ur mail id.
ah! i thought it was some kind of cosmic coincidence that you blogged about days between just now, but now i see it's been primed by vb. nice.
@giftofwings: that would very kind of you.
@tr - this tune was running in mind for few days..so finally its a true cosmic coincidence :))
i dont think i have heard "days between" before. beautiful. love the lyrics. thanks. thanks. thanks :)
gift, this song moved me beyond words. thank you for introducing me to it.
@K,S - thanks for ur kind words :). Dr. Mcnally in his "a long strange trip" commented "Garcia's music for it was anything but standard, a sort of drone that put the focus purely on Hunter's splendid lyrics, which were the sort of work T.S. Eliot might have done if he'd heard rock and roll."
Kudos !
it is true what he says about hunter, and i also agree that jerry's music was anything but standard, but i dont agree that it put the focus "purely" (solely) on hunter's lyrics. tho this could well be my misinterpretation of his use of the word pure. in which case, i'd have to agree wholeheartedly :)
may be the music is nothing but standard..but the passion, the sadness, the feeling from jerry’s voice is enormous. Sometime I feel the rigidness in his voice range makes the songs more beautiful.
